Hip Replacement is an eight-piece rock 'n' roll cover  band. They do the lot - Elvis, Jerry Lee, Beatles, Stones, Soul, Creedence, Doobies, Status Quo and beyond. With their strong harmony vocals and punchy rhythms this band always gets the crowd up and on the floor. Combining experience, energy and sheer love of the music, the band heats up everything from weddings to fund-raisers, corporate and presentation nights to birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.  The band were recently part of a Fund Raiser that raised $20 000 to help build homes in Africa.

Those of you who were at the recent Launches for Richard Madden's Album 'Force Of Nature' and The Gem Saloon's  EP 'Crewah'  at The Vangard in Newtown and The Brass Monkey in Cronulla dont need to be told how good these  bands are live. After an acoustic support from Gem Saloon, Richards band barely fitted on the stage at The Vanguard (10 on stage at one point).  Gem Saloon played their first Gig in the 'shoire'  to a packed and appreciative Brass Monkey crowd. Richard did the support with acoustic guitar and Curtis on the  kit wih the brushes. It was great to be able to see both bands both scaled down and complete on these 2 nights. Special mention to Curtis for his legendary effort to sell CDs after the gig.
Young Hip Hop / Rap artists Philosophize has started recording some tracks at The Sound Basement. The first Track 'Street Corner' can be found here. We have started working on the second track which is very clever and quite funny lyrically.

Huge congratulations go out to Bleached Academy (which consists of members from Ethix and Rest Assured) for winning Youth Rock. The band walked away with 20 grand (yes ........ 20 grand) in prizes. A bidg "well done" also to Steve Hill of Backbeat management for his tireless work. And as if 20 Grand wasnt enough, the band also won an 'A Red Letter Day' band competition, which The Sound Basement sponsors, and will be coming in to record a track for a forthcoming compilation.

Hailer have finished tracking and mixing commences this week. These guys have an awesome array of pedals and leadsinstruments. That Ampeg cranked with the Jazz master through it makes a wonderful noise. There was a chance of the band being consumed by the inevitable Spaghetti Lead monster (see pic) but quick thinking and vodka and boysenberry juice saved the day.
Saint Saint have finished mixing their EP 'Chemistry'. Release dates and suppotrting Gigs announced soon.
We have 2 walls on either side of our driveway that desperately need brightening up. If youve got the idea, we got the paint. Give us a buzz with your ideas or drop us an email

A Sound Basement Ikon sadly passed away last week. Our beloved Rank Arena gave up the fight despite Pauls attempts to revive it. It has been replace by a HUGE  panasonic.  The Rank Arena  was pushing 40 years of age. We are looking  at the possibilities of converting it into a new home for Malcom and Angus
Best wishes go out to Edgee - Conspiracy -  Who had surgery on his shoulder last week. We are sure you will recover quickly and will be bashing the bejeesus outta the skins real soon.

Watch out world.... S.N.D is coming. 'Relax, this wont hurt ............ for long' available soon.

We have a new Air Conditioner at The Sound Basement. The old one passed away on Christmas eve leaving a trail of slippery gunk in our drive way. The new one is guaranteed to get your nipples out!

'Gem Saloon' Have started tracking for a forthcoming E.P. I did some demo's for these guys a while ago and am really looking forward to the finished product. The band have been getting some great responses from their Gigs lately.

The 'ETHIX' E.P 'Pages From A diary' is now finished and available from The Sound Basement.

vwYou may of seen a white 1970 VW Beetle hanging around the front of the Sound Basement. This is our new mascot. Kane from 'Bull Fight In Mexico' (formally Fishfingaaz) is going to transform this innocent looking VW into a work of art brandashing our Logo. Watch this space for updates.

'Ethix' tracked 5 songs at The Sound Basement for a forthcoming E.P. The EP is produced by Steve Hill who also produced the Rest Assured E.P.

'This Film's for Bela' have finished recording three tracks.   This band   have such a blend of sounds, its really hard to define, which is probably a great thing. What I really like about this band is the structure of their songs. The array   of different energies and interesting ideas really work well together in an origanal way.

'THE DEEP FIX' are putting the final touches on their debut album 'Adventure In Love' at The Sound Basement. The album is produced by Val Calocerinos who also plays some bass and percussion. Vikki from Boadecea   has also contributed to the album as well as Justin Buckingham   who also plays sax on Richard Maddens new album.   The projects writer 'Captain Mission' states.. 'The deep fix is   a project conceived by captain mission in late 2007 after a head injury and related heart trauma. The results are captured and expressed in the songs that make up the cd ‘Adventures in love.' ’Adventures in love’   is an expression of joy, grief and sadness, loss and a broken heart, most of the songs relate to love in some form or another although one would not refer to them as traditional love songs. Blending electronica with various organic energies and a crew of amazingly talented people ‘adventures’ transcends style and genre and convention, and we hope gives the listener something to think about on the dance floor. Who is the deep fix? captain mission and those who sail with him, val the alchemist, vikki b the siren, justin the angel. What is the deep fix? fear or love or reality or illusion. you choose?'

Piano is Drunk' recently recorded a live sample of their sound at the sound basement. Big nasty guitars and bass rumbles from hell, these cats have got it all! Keep an ear to the ground for their debut shows!!!

These guys worked really hard and this first release

for the band is a great indication of things to come.

You can get your copy from The Sound Basement's Rock Shop.

Boadecea   and Conspiracy     and Ark Crusade all took part our debut gig at The Harp in Tempe on 26th July. Both Boadecea and Conspiracy have recently recorded at The Sound Basement. It was a great night all round.   I was lucky enough to have the box seat (I was doing the sound) and was really impressed with Ark Crusade. This was their first show and I am looking forward to seeing them again. I also did sound for Boadecea on the 29th July on a boat!! It was pretty cruisy (excuse the pun) and luckily the sea was kind and no one lost their lunch. You can catch the band first Wednesday of the month at The Brass Monkey in Cronulla. Aparantly Conspiracy are planning a cruise for september. I will keep you posted.

The Richard Madden band   have begun recording at The Sound Basement. We have layed down nine tracks and the finishing touches are being planned as we speak. Cam (who also plays in Dead Letter Chorus) played some real tasty bass while Curtis and his amazing sounding transparent old Ludwig kept it all together. Richard is a great songwriter and his guitar skills are very special. If you get a chance, make sure you check this band live. While we are on the subject of Guitars, Dave Bova and his band 'Cruise Missiles' have also started recording. 'Criuse Missles' instumental music covers alot of territory. The track 'Silver Oxide' is huge with alot of   interesting sounds and textures. Watch this space for updates.

The Bang Shang a Lang website       has just undergone a major facelift operation and is currently recovering live online for your perusal. There is a whole new photo gallery of crazy pix from the 70s Street Festival back in March plus people can now purchase   the CD 'Unreal, Orange Peel!' via the online Store page!

Local Band See Archy   have recorded a track 'Beyond Reach, at The Sound Basement. The band is planning to record a few more tracks soon for a possible E.P. Check them out @ the link above.

Amy Merideth     have just demo'd some new material to work on while their drummer 'Matt' heads to Indonesia to make a surfing DVD. Some really great sounds coming from this band, to me kind of 80's post punk but that would be just showing my age! Click the link to learn more.
